Da sapere su Valletta
- Malta has no railway, metro or tram in operation; the Valletta-Mdina railway closed in 1931 and the trams in 1929, so buses are the only public transport.
- Malta International Airport at Luqa is the only airport serving the whole Maltese archipelago, just 5 km southwest of Valletta.
- Almost every bus route on Malta starts from a single terminus just outside Valletta's city gate, so arrivals normally change there.
- Malta's free public wifi is called MCAfreeWiFi. Connecting brings up a splash page where you accept the terms and enter your age, gender and nationality. No phone number is needed.
- The MCA free wifi connection is filtered against adult content and gambling sites, and runs at up to 35 Mbps downstream.
- The MCA manages 144 free wifi spots across Malta and Gozo. The two inside Valletta itself are the National Library and Pjazza San Gorg.
- Every Malta Public Transport bus carries free wifi. You connect to the network called Tallinja Wi-Fi and accept the terms, with no account or number required.
- A bus ticket can be bought from the driver on board with cash or with a contactless bank card, so no app, account or data connection is needed to travel.
- Malta Public Transport sales offices at the airport are inside the Welcomers' Hall, open 08:00 to 19:30, and at Baggage Reclaim. Two card dispensing machines run 24 hours.
- The airport bus routes X1, X2, X3 and X4 were withdrawn on 20 April 2025 and replaced by Airport Direct routes TD1 to TD4 plus numbered routes, so older guides name routes that no longer run.
- The four Airport Direct routes are TD1 to Rabat, Bugibba and Cirkewwa, TD2 to St Julian's and Pembroke, TD3 to Gzira, Sliema and St Julian's, and TD4 to Valletta and the Gozo fast ferry.
- The Valletta Ferry runs Valletta to Sliema and Valletta to Cospicua. Passengers arriving from Cospicua are given a ticket for the Upper Barrakka lift up into the city.
- A free shuttle links the Marsamxetto ferry quay with Lascaris in step with ferry arrivals and departures, and the Route 133 circular connects both ferry quays with central Valletta.
- An Explore Flex travel card can be added to the tallinja app, topped up with credit, and then used to pay for the Valletta ferry as well as buses.
- All Malta Public Transport travel cards are valid on buses across both Malta and Gozo, so a card bought at the Valletta terminus also works on Gozo.
