Wissenswertes über Nicosia
- Der Flughafen von Nikosia wird seit der Invasion 1974 nicht mehr kommerziell genutzt; der letzte Linienflug startete 1977, und auf dem Gelände sitzt heute das Hauptquartier der UN Friedenstruppe.
- Seit der Schließung von Nicosia International wickeln Larnaca (eröffnet 1975) und Paphos (eröffnet 1983) den gesamten Verkehr der Republik Zypern ab, jede Ankunft in Nikosia ist also ein Straßentransfer.
- Zypern hat keine Personenbahn mehr, seit die Cyprus Government Railway am 31. Dezember 1951 ihren letzten Zug fahren ließ; Busse, Taxis und Mietwagen sind die einzigen Verkehrsmittel auf der Insel.
- Der Flughafen Larnaca bietet kostenloses WLAN, weist es aber ausdrücklich als öffentliches Netz aus und rät von Onlinebanking oder Kartenkäufen während der Verbindung ab.
