홍콩에서 Orbislo를 쓸 때 일반적인 다운로드 속도: 92 Mbps. 아시아 중앙값 43.9 Mbps를 확실히 웃도는 수치예요.
10 퍼센타일은 29 Mbps예요. 중앙값과 하한 사이의 이 정도 간격은 흔하지만, 답답함이 생기는 지점도 여기예요. 평소에는 빠르고, 가장 붐비는 몇 퍼센트의 순간, 대개 출퇴근 시간대의 역이나 공항에서 눈에 띄게 느려져요.
이 속도면 휴대폰에서 하는 일 중에 연결 때문에 막히는 건 없어요. 영상 통화가 편안하고, 노트북 테더링으로 하루 종일 일할 수 있고, 사진 대용량 백업도 따로 시간을 잡지 않아도 끝나요.
어떤 통신망을 쓰게 되나요
홍콩에서 Orbislo는 CSL 및 SmarTone 망으로 트래픽을 보내요. 휴대폰이 둘 중 하나에 묶이지 않아요. 붙어 있던 망이 혼잡해지거나 끊기면 프로파일이 다른 쪽으로 옮겨 줘요. 확인 창도 없고, 연결이 계속 살아 있었다는 결과 말고는 알아챌 것도 없어요.
이건 겉으로 보이는 속도보다 중요해요. 지금 팔리는 여행용 eSIM은 거의 모두 나라별로 제휴 계약 하나를 되파는 구조라, 그 망이 한 시간 상태가 나쁘면 그 시간을 그대로 같이 겪고, 방법은 다른 회사 eSIM을 하나 더 사는 것뿐이에요. 뒤에 망이 여러 개 있는 프로파일은 사용자가 보지 못하는 곳에서 판단을 내릴 수 있어요.

홍콩의 데이터 요금
홍콩용 100 MB 요금제는 ₩0부터이고, 1 기가에 ₩0예요. 업체를 비교할 때 볼 숫자는 이거예요. 용량이 다른 요금제에 붙은 표시 가격은 아무것도 알려 주지 않으니까요.
대부분의 업체가 굳이 시켜 보고 싶어 하지 않는 비교가 실제로 쓴 기가당 단가예요. 여행 데이터에 관한 독립 조사들은 구매한 데이터 가운데 유효기간으로 사라지는 비율을 20에서 35 퍼센트로 봐요. 30일에 만료되는 요금제는 다 쓰지 못한 몫을 그냥 지우니까요. Orbislo 데이터에는 만료일이 없어서, 돈을 낸 기가는 다음 여행에도 그대로 남아 있어요. 같은 표시 가격이라면 실제로 쓸 수 있는 데이터가 25에서 40 퍼센트 늘어나는 셈이고, 홍콩에서는 실질 단가가 1 기가 ₩0보다 ₩0에 가까워진다는 뜻이에요.
만료가 없으니 홍콩용으로는 필요하다고 생각하는 양보다 조금 적게 사고 모자라면 충전하는 게 가장 싸요. 충전은 10초쯤 걸리고 따로 설치할 것도 없어요. 많이 사 두는 건 다른 데서는 비싼 실수지만 여기서는 손해도 이득도 아니에요.
홍콩에 도착하면
출발 전에 집 WLAN에서 설치하세요. 믿을 만한 연결이 있을 때 프로파일을 내려받아 두면, 홍콩에 내려 CSL 망에 붙을 때까지 조용히 대기만 해요.
내려서 확인할 건 하나뿐이에요. Orbislo 회선에서 데이터 로밍을 켜야 해요. iOS와 안드로이드 모두 기본값이 꺼짐이고, 여기서 말하는 로밍은 요금과 아무 상관이 없어요. 선불 요금제라 올라갈 청구서 자체가 없거든요. Orbislo 회선만 켜고 원래 쓰던 회선은 꺼 두면, 평소 번호로 전화와 은행 인증 코드를 그대로 받으면서 돈은 들지 않아요.
홍콩에서 현지 유심 구하기
Hong Kong runs a real name registration programme under the Telecommunications (Registration of SIM Cards) Regulation, and every prepaid card supplied by a Hong Kong operator has to be registered before it will activate. A visitor without a Hong Kong identity card registers on another valid identity document.
홍콩에서 제한되는 것
- Roaming eSIMs outside the registration rule: Hong Kong's real name rules cover every SIM and eSIM that a Hong Kong licensee supplies for use here, but not a SIM or eSIM from a provider licensed elsewhere that a visitor uses on inbound roaming. Such a roaming eSIM needs no Hong Kong registration.
- Local travel SIMs: A travel SIM from a Hong Kong operator that also works inside Hong Kong has to be registered before it is activated for use here. Only cards that work solely abroad, over outbound roaming, fall outside the rule.
- Documents refused for registration: Anyone who holds a Hong Kong identity card must register a local SIM with that card. Others use a valid passport or travel document, but a Hong Kong SAR passport or a British National (Overseas) passport is not accepted as proof of identity.
- Pre-registered cards: Buying a prepaid card sold as already registered, or registering with false details, can amount to a criminal offence such as obtaining services by deception under the Theft Ordinance. Operators also run sample checks, and a card is deregistered if an irregularity turns up and its user does not help confirm the details.
- Mainland signal near the boundary: Near the Shenzhen boundary and on some outlying islands, a phone can switch to a Mainland China network. Calls and data are then charged as roaming, so setting the phone to select a Hong Kong network manually keeps usage on the local plan.
- Emergency calls on a Mainland network: Dialling 112 or 999 on any local network with coverage reaches the 999 centre. A phone attached to a Mainland network cannot reach it through 00852 112 or 00852 999, so the advice there is to dial 00852 and a Hong Kong police station or a contact.
- Older VoLTE handsets: With 2G and 3G closing, some early 4G handsets that support only an older version of VoLTE may be unable to call 999 or 112 over VoLTE. The regulator tells owners of such phones to ask whether they need a software update or a replacement.
홍콩에서 알아두면 좋은 것
- 홍콩 신분증 없이 등록하는 사람은 그 신분증을 갖고 있지 않다는 것, 그리고 다른 서류로 이미 등록하지 않았다는 것도 진술해야 합니다. 그래서 한 신원으로 카드를 여러 장 쌓아 등록할 수 없습니다.
- 홍콩에서 한 사람이 한 사업자에 등록할 수 있는 선불 카드는 최대 10장, 법인은 최대 25장까지입니다. 그래서 한 신원으로 카드를 몰아 사려는 일행은 상한에 부딪힙니다.
- Hong Kong's Emergency Alert System reaches visitors too. A phone roaming onto a local network receives the government's cell broadcast alerts, free of charge, as long as its cell broadcast feature is switched on, and each alert sounds an alarm with vibration for about ten seconds.
- Alerts at the Extreme Emergency Alert level cannot be switched off or muted, while the lower Emergency Alert level can be turned off. The system needs a 3G, 4G or 5G connection, and it does not reach phones outside Hong Kong's local networks.
- Texting 992 reaches the police only from a number registered in advance under the scheme for people who cannot use 999 because of a speech or hearing impairment. Registration goes through the police online platform or a police station.
- Since 31 December 2024, anyone answering a call from a newly activated Hong Kong prepaid SIM first hears a recorded warning that the call comes from a new prepaid card. People you ring from a freshly bought local card hear it before the call connects.
- On a Hong Kong mobile line, an incoming call that shows a +852 number but originates outside Hong Kong triggers a free voice or text warning: "Call is from outside Hong Kong. Beware of deception." All mobile providers have sent it since 1 May 2023.
- Under the SMS Sender Registration Scheme, registered organisations text local mobile subscribers from sender IDs that begin with #, and the networks block other messages whose sender IDs use # without registration. A # prefix is therefore a mark of a genuine sender.
- Hong Kong levies no value added tax or sales tax of any kind, so nothing of that kind is added to the price of a mobile plan, top up or handset bought here.
