뉴칼레도니아에서 44 Mbps가 실제로 뜻하는 것
뉴칼레도니아에서 Orbislo를 쓸 때 일반적인 다운로드 속도: 44 Mbps. 오세아니아 중앙값 39 Mbps와 거의 같은 수준이에요. 다시 말해 뉴칼레도니아에서는 연결을 딱히 의식할 일이 없다는 뜻이고, 좋은 의미로 그래요.
10 퍼센타일은 10 Mbps예요. 중앙값과 하한 사이의 이 정도 간격은 흔하지만, 답답함이 생기는 지점도 여기예요. 평소에는 빠르고, 가장 붐비는 몇 퍼센트의 순간, 대개 출퇴근 시간대의 역이나 공항에서 눈에 띄게 느려져요.
지도, 메시지, 영상 통화, 고화질 스트리밍, 일상적인 업무용 노트북 테더링까지 대부분의 여행자가 하는 일은 다 돼요. 다만 하루치 RAW 사진을 아무 생각 없이 올릴 만큼은 아니에요.

이건 겉으로 보이는 속도보다 중요해요. 지금 팔리는 여행용 eSIM은 거의 모두 나라별로 제휴 계약 하나를 되파는 구조라, 그 망이 한 시간 상태가 나쁘면 그 시간을 그대로 같이 겪고, 방법은 다른 회사 eSIM을 하나 더 사는 것뿐이에요. 뒤에 망이 여러 개 있는 프로파일은 사용자가 보지 못하는 곳에서 판단을 내릴 수 있어요.
뉴칼레도니아의 5G: 4G만 지원. 잘 구축된 4G 셀은 혼잡한 5G 셀을 여유 있게 앞섭니다. 위 수치가 세대가 아니라 처리량인 이유입니다.

출발 전에 집 WLAN에서 설치하세요. 믿을 만한 연결이 있을 때 프로파일을 내려받아 두면, 뉴칼레도니아에 내려 Mobilis 망에 붙을 때까지 조용히 대기만 해요.
내려서 확인할 건 하나뿐이에요. Orbislo 회선에서 데이터 로밍을 켜야 해요. iOS와 안드로이드 모두 기본값이 꺼짐이고, 여기서 말하는 로밍은 요금과 아무 상관이 없어요. 선불 요금제라 올라갈 청구서 자체가 없거든요. Orbislo 회선만 켜고 원래 쓰던 회선은 꺼 두면, 평소 번호로 전화와 은행 인증 코드를 그대로 받으면서 돈은 들지 않아요.
뉴칼레도니아에서 제한되는 것
- TikTok block, May 2024: During the riots of May 2024 the French government declared a state of emergency in New Caledonia and cut off access to TikTok across the territory. On 1 April 2025 the Conseil d'État ruled that block illegal, because it was total and set for no fixed period.
- Future social media blocks: The same ruling confirmed that the government can still suspend a social network in exceptional circumstances, but only when events are especially serious, no less restrictive technical measure is available at once, and the suspension lasts only as long as it takes to put such a measure in place.
- Approved handsets: The network's terms allow only handsets that meet the standards approved under article 252-1 of New Caledonia's posts and telecommunications code, and forbid putting the operator's SIM into equipment that is not approved.
- Internet calling: Voice over the internet has sat outside the public operator's legal monopoly since a 2008 judgment of the Nouméa administrative court. The monopoly still covers ordinary mobile and fixed telephony.
- Two hour call limit: Every call on the local mobile network is cut automatically after two continuous hours. The operator's terms describe this as protection against calls left running by mistake or hijacked by a third party.

- Dial 15 for the SAMU medical emergency service, 17 for the police and 18 for the fire brigade. For trouble at sea, 16 reaches the New Caledonia maritime rescue coordination centre.
- Under New Caledonia's posts and telecommunications code, carrying calls to the emergency services free of charge is part of the public telecommunications service the territory's operator must provide.
- A local mobile line that has been suspended can no longer make calls or go online, but it can still receive calls and can still reach the emergency services.
- Local prepaid kits are sold to residents and to foreigners visiting New Caledonia. The calls, texts and data bundled with a new kit last 30 days from activation, while any monetary credit on it lasts 90 days.
- Once prepaid credit expires, the number survives another 90 days. After that the SIM is deactivated and the number is lost. Each credit top up extends validity by 120 to 180 days depending on its value, up to a ceiling of 360 days.
- On a local prepaid kit, voice and video calls made through apps count against the data allowance like any other traffic, and internet calling is expressly allowed on both the starting data and later data top ups.
- Under article 42 of New Caledonia's economic regulation deliberation of 6 October 2004, a mobile customer has 15 clear days to withdraw from a purchase. Asking for the service to start at once gives up that right as soon as it begins.
