Port Moresby에서 알아두면 좋은 것
- Port Moresby has no road connection to major Papua New Guinean cities such as Lae and Madang; the national highway system is not fully linked, so domestic flights do the work of roads.
- Jacksons has separate domestic and international terminals joined by a covered walkway.
- The airport is about 8 km outside the city and is the hub for both Air Niugini and PNG Air.
- The National Airports Corporation operates 22 national airports in Papua New Guinea and calls Port Moresby's Jacksons International its flagship gateway to the world.
- Jacksons International has two asphalt runways, 14L/32R at 2,750 m and 14R/32L at 1,300 m, at an elevation of 38 m. It handled about 1.6 million passengers in 2025.
- The airfield was renamed Jackson Airfield in honour of John Francis Jackson, an Australian fighter ace killed in combat during the 1942 New Guinea campaign.
- The Coral Sea Cable System lays 4,700 km of cable through the Coral Sea connecting Port Moresby and Honiara with Sydney. The Papua New Guinea landing station is at Kila Kila, and the system carries 20 terabits.
- The Coral Sea Cable Company is held in equal shares by the Commonwealth of Australia, PNG DataCo and the Solomon Islands Submarine Cable Company, and maintains the system over an expected 25 year life.
- The domestic Kumul Submarine Cable Network lays about 5,600 km of submarine fibre to at least 15 coastal and maritime provincial centres. Its first phase landed at Port Moresby, Alotau, Popondetta, Lae and Madang.
- The National Capital District Commission runs Eda City Bus, which means Our City Bus in Motu. It launched in April 2022 and by its first anniversary had 5 buses, 26 staff and 3 routes running 6am to 6pm.
- A year after launch Eda City Bus was carrying about 20,000 commuters a month. The city governor has said the private PMV minibuses operate only during peak hours, which makes them unreliable.
- Papua New Guinea's Department of ICT states that all adult subscribers must hold a SevisPass digital ID and link their SIMs through the SevisWallet app, with existing SIMs required to link by 30 June 2026.
- The draft SIM Card Registration Amendment and Consolidation Regulation 2026 would verify identity by electronic know your customer checks through the SevisDEx platform, under the National ICT Act 2009.
- Port Moresby had 756,754 residents at the 2024 census and sits on the Coral Sea on the south western coast of the Papuan Peninsula. Motu, Tok Pisin and English are the main languages spoken.
- Port Moresby hosted the APEC summit in November 2018, which brought world leaders to the city.
