마카오에서 84 Mbps가 실제로 뜻하는 것
마카오에서 Orbislo를 쓸 때 일반적인 다운로드 속도: 84 Mbps. 아시아 중앙값 43.9 Mbps를 확실히 웃도는 수치예요.
10 퍼센타일은 24 Mbps예요. 중앙값과 하한 사이의 이 정도 간격은 흔하지만, 답답함이 생기는 지점도 여기예요. 평소에는 빠르고, 가장 붐비는 몇 퍼센트의 순간, 대개 출퇴근 시간대의 역이나 공항에서 눈에 띄게 느려져요.
이 속도면 휴대폰에서 하는 일 중에 연결 때문에 막히는 건 없어요. 영상 통화가 편안하고, 노트북 테더링으로 하루 종일 일할 수 있고, 사진 대용량 백업도 따로 시간을 잡지 않아도 끝나요.
어떤 통신망을 쓰게 되나요
마카오에서 Orbislo는 CTM 및 China Telecom 망으로 트래픽을 보내요. 휴대폰이 둘 중 하나에 묶이지 않아요. 붙어 있던 망이 혼잡해지거나 끊기면 프로파일이 다른 쪽으로 옮겨 줘요. 확인 창도 없고, 연결이 계속 살아 있었다는 결과 말고는 알아챌 것도 없어요.
이건 겉으로 보이는 속도보다 중요해요. 지금 팔리는 여행용 eSIM은 거의 모두 나라별로 제휴 계약 하나를 되파는 구조라, 그 망이 한 시간 상태가 나쁘면 그 시간을 그대로 같이 겪고, 방법은 다른 회사 eSIM을 하나 더 사는 것뿐이에요. 뒤에 망이 여러 개 있는 프로파일은 사용자가 보지 못하는 곳에서 판단을 내릴 수 있어요.
마카오의 5G는 지원, 논스탠드얼론. 여행용 프로파일에서 5G는 특별한 게 아니라 기본이라는 점, 그리고 여행의 체감을 결정하는 건 상태 표시줄의 세대 표기가 아니라 위의 10 퍼센타일이라는 점은 알아 둘 만해요.
마카오의 데이터 요금
마카오용 500 MB 요금제는 ₩0부터이고, 1 기가에 ₩0예요. 업체를 비교할 때 볼 숫자는 이거예요. 용량이 다른 요금제에 붙은 표시 가격은 아무것도 알려 주지 않으니까요.
대부분의 업체가 굳이 시켜 보고 싶어 하지 않는 비교가 실제로 쓴 기가당 단가예요. 여행 데이터에 관한 독립 조사들은 구매한 데이터 가운데 유효기간으로 사라지는 비율을 20에서 35 퍼센트로 봐요. 30일에 만료되는 요금제는 다 쓰지 못한 몫을 그냥 지우니까요. Orbislo 데이터에는 만료일이 없어서, 돈을 낸 기가는 다음 여행에도 그대로 남아 있어요. 같은 표시 가격이라면 실제로 쓸 수 있는 데이터가 25에서 40 퍼센트 늘어나는 셈이고, 마카오에서는 실질 단가가 1 기가 ₩0보다 ₩0에 가까워진다는 뜻이에요.
만료가 없으니 마카오용으로는 필요하다고 생각하는 양보다 조금 적게 사고 모자라면 충전하는 게 가장 싸요. 충전은 10초쯤 걸리고 따로 설치할 것도 없어요. 많이 사 두는 건 다른 데서는 비싼 실수지만 여기서는 손해도 이득도 아니에요.
마카오에 도착하면
출발 전에 집 WLAN에서 설치하세요. 믿을 만한 연결이 있을 때 프로파일을 내려받아 두면, 마카오에 내려 CTM 망에 붙을 때까지 조용히 대기만 해요.
내려서 확인할 건 하나뿐이에요. Orbislo 회선에서 데이터 로밍을 켜야 해요. iOS와 안드로이드 모두 기본값이 꺼짐이고, 여기서 말하는 로밍은 요금과 아무 상관이 없어요. 선불 요금제라 올라갈 청구서 자체가 없거든요. Orbislo 회선만 켜고 원래 쓰던 회선은 꺼 두면, 평소 번호로 전화와 은행 인증 코드를 그대로 받으면서 돈은 들지 않아요.
마카오에서 제한되는 것
- Prepaid SIM registration: Macao's Cyber Security Law, Law 13/2019, in force since 22 December 2019, makes operators register every prepaid card to a real name. Cards activated before that date had until 19 April 2020 to be registered, and unregistered prepaid cards lost mobile service on 20 April 2020.
- ID at purchase: CTM, the largest operator, requires every buyer of its prepaid cards, visitors included, to present an original identity card or a valid passport so the card can be registered at the point of sale, a requirement it attributes to the Macau Government.
- Prepaid card quota: Since 21 November 2025 a person registering prepaid cards with a passport or other travel document may hold no more than 3, while a Macau identity card holder may hold 6. Once the quota is reached, CTM bars any further registration.
- False registration: Registering a phone card with false identity details is a criminal matter in Macao. The Public Prosecutions Office warns that the person a card is registered to may face criminal or civil liability if the card is later used for unlawful purposes, so a registered card should stay with its owner.
- Lawful interception: A law on the interception and protection of communications took effect in August 2022. With prior authorisation from a judge it allows the authorities to intercept or record telephone and other electronic communications without the parties' consent, and lets police request communication records from social media operators, including those not based in Macao.
마카오에서 알아두면 좋은 것
- 마카오는 본토와 따로 자체 통신법을 운영합니다. Law 21/2024의 무선통신 제도 아래에서는 공중 육상 이동통신 서비스용 단말기를 들여올 때 형식 승인도, 통신망이나 무선국 면허도, 수입 허가도 필요 없습니다.
- 개정된 Chief Executive Order 198/2014의 조건을 충족하는 저출력 근거리 무선 기기도 마찬가지로 정부 허가, 형식 승인, 보유 면허가 모두 필요 없습니다. 무전기나 수신기를 들고 다니는 여행자가 마주치는 규정이 이것입니다.
- In December 2020 prosecutors pursued three staff of a local telecom company and one other man suspected of registering at least 210,000 prepaid cards through shell companies and other people's identity details, then passing the cards on. Some reached phone fraud syndicates.
- The US State Department's 2023 human rights report found no public reports that the government overtly restricted or disrupted internet access or censored online content in Macao.
- The emergency number in Macao is 999, and 110 and 112 are listed alongside it, so a visitor can dial whichever number they know from home. For hospital emergencies, S. Januario Hospital is on 2831 3731 and Kiang Wu Hospital on 2837 1333.
- Not every phone can make a VoLTE emergency call in Macao without a SIM card. CTM's compatibility list shows iPhone SE and 6S or later can call without a SIM, while Samsung Galaxy A12, A13 and A14 can only make a VoLTE emergency call with a SIM inserted.
- A CTM prepaid card activates with its first call, text or data connection, and an SMS then confirms the number, balance and expiry date. Only a reload extends the expiry date. Buying a data plan does not, and any balance left when the card expires is forfeited.
- Under Administrative Regulation 15/2002, a Macao number that its holder stops using is returned and reassigned to someone else. CTM asks prepaid customers to update any website or app registered to the number before they stop using it, which matters for a visitor who received verification codes on it.
