- Valparaiso has no commercial airport of its own: you land at Santiago (SCL), 120 km away, then take about 1 hour 30 minutes by car on Route 68 or almost 2 hours by bus from the Alameda or Pajaritos terminals.
- The local "Metro" is not a metro: the Limache-Puerto line (Merval) is a single 43 km commuter railway with 20 stations linking five cities, and it includes a 5 km underground stretch from Miramar through Chorrillos in Vina del Mar.
- Moving between the port and the hills means funiculars: 16 ascensores survive, 15 of them public and designated national monuments, and the World Monuments Fund listed the system among the world's 100 most endangered historical treasures in 1996.
- Chile made prepaid mobile registration mandatory from 20 August 2026: every prepaid line must be tied to a named holder, with operators recording name, address and national ID or passport number, so buying a local prepaid SIM now involves identity verification.
