- Julius Nyerere International splits traffic across three terminals: Terminal 3, opened in August 2019, handles international flights while Terminal 2 handles domestic and regional ones, so a connection to Zanzibar or Arusha means changing terminal.
- There is no rail link from the airport: a rail shuttle to the city was proposed and coaches bought as far back as 2014, but the connection is not running.
- Dar es Salaam's DART bus rapid transit opened its first phase on 10 May 2016 and is the city's main mass transit; there is no metro.
