• Licensing: Under the Telecommunications Act, running a network needs a carrier licence, selling service to the public needs a separate service provider licence, and using spectrum for either needs a spectrum licence.
• Flow: The Fair Trading Commission still oversees the asset sales it ordered when approving the merger of Columbus and Flow, because the sale was not completed within the five year divestment period and a further phase began.
• Digicel: Digicel announced in December 2025 that it was decommissioning its 2G network in Barbados, saying the move would improve reliability, and that 2G customers would not be left out of the transition.

• Flow, part of Liberty Caribbean, became the first operator to launch commercial 5G in Barbados on 15 October 2025, starting with 22 sites layered on its existing island wide 4G LTE network.
• Digicel launched its 5G+ network in Barbados in November 2025, announcing it in Warrens, St Michael, alongside a plan to convert 60 percent of its mobile sites to solar power with battery storage from 2026.

• Digicel's solar programme puts on site solar panels and batteries at mobile sites so they keep running through hurricanes and grid failures. The same supplier's solar sites in Jamaica stayed fully operational through a recent hurricane.
• When the Governor-General declares a public emergency, aid organisations may import telecommunications and radio equipment for disaster relief without a licence and free of duties and taxes, under the Tampere Convention definitions.
• The Fair Trading Commission recorded 24 telecom complaints and queries between 2013 and 2015 and more than 86 between 2016 and 2019, over advertising, contract terms, data usage and high charges, which led to its mobile code.
