- Lofoten is an archipelago and traditional district of six municipalities with about 24,500 residents, not a city.
- Neither Lofoten airport takes international flights: Leknes and Svolvær are served only by Widerøe Dash 8s on subsidised public service routes via Bodø.
- The E10 road links the Lofoten islands to each other by bridges and undersea tunnels, and the Lofast road connected the archipelago to mainland Norway only in December 2007.
