Gdanskで知っておきたいこと
- Gdańsk airport has its own rail link, the Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway, which also runs to Gdynia: the airport serves the whole Tricity, not just Gdańsk.
- The airport is 12 km northwest of the centre and is Poland's third-busiest, with 7.4 million passengers in 2025.
- Gdańsk is Poland's sixth-largest city and its major Baltic seaport.
- The city wifi is called GD@NSKwifi. It is open: you select the network and accept the terms, with no password, registration or phone number. Sessions are capped at 60 minutes and hotspots at 512 kbit/s.
- Poland requires prepaid SIM cards to be registered. You register in person by showing an identity card or a passport. Scans, copies and photocopies are not treated as documents and cannot be used.
- Gdansk public transport runs on the FALA system. You can travel without a FALA account and pay for tickets with an ordinary contactless payment card. You board, hold the card to a reader, and ride.
- FALA covers the rail operators POLREGIO and PKP SKM plus city transport in Gdansk, Gdynia, Sopot, Slupsk, Wladyslawowo, Chojnice, Lebork, Puck and Wejherowo, so one payment card works across the region.
- Vehicles carry two kinds of FALA device. Small readers by the doors sell only a single journey ticket. Larger touchscreen falomats, usually in the wheelchair space near the middle, sell more ticket types.
- ZTM Gdansk single tickets can be bought in seven mobile apps: System FALA, goPay, Jakdojade, moBILET, mPay, SkyCash and zBiletem.
- The metropolitan ticket is valid on ZTM Gdansk buses and trams, ZKM Gdynia buses and trolleybuses, MZK Wejherowo, and PKP SKM and Polregio trains, across 14 municipalities around the Gdansk bay.
- Single and time limited FALA tickets need no account. Only monthly and period tickets require registration, so a visitor can pay and ride without signing up for anything.
- The airport rail link, Pomorska Kolej Metropolitalna, opened in September 2015 with nearly 20 km of new track and eight stops. It was the first railway line built from scratch in Poland in nearly 40 years.
- Gdansk airport has two passenger terminals. T1, opened in 1997, mainly handles flights outside the Schengen zone. T2, opened in 2012 and extended since, handles Schengen flights. Nine air bridges serve the terminals.
