- The city's free Wi-Fi, Salzburg surft!, has hotspots in Mirabell Gardens, at the town hall on Getreidegasse, on Mozartplatz, Kapitelplatz and Kajetanerplatz, and at the Marko-Feingold-Steg footbridge.
- Salzburg surft! needs no user account: accept the terms and you are online for a limited time within about 100 metres of a hotspot. The network is switched off every night between midnight and 5 am.
- Since 1 May 2025 every overnight guest in the province receives a Guest Mobility Ticket at check-in, valid for the whole stay on city buses, regional buses, S-Bahn, regional and long-distance trains and on-demand services across Salzburg province.
- The Guest Mobility Ticket comes as a PDF or a pass for a phone wallet. It covers the arrival and departure journeys within the province, and guests coming by public transport can ask their host to email it in advance.
- The ticket is funded by a mobility fee added to the overnight tax: 0.50 euros per person per night for guests aged 15 and over, rising to 1.10 euros from 1 May 2027.
- The Salzburg Card, sold for 24, 48 or 72 hours, gives one free entry to each city museum and attraction and free public transport, though not on the S-Bahn. It is sold as a digital card or as a bank-card format card at hotel receptions.
- From 1 July 2026 the Old Town is largely closed to regular traffic, with car access only in exceptional cases. The tourist board points drivers to Park and Ride, which includes public transport into the centre.
- From 14 September 2026 the Neutor is closed to motor traffic for several months of construction, and buses run to a special network plan in the meantime.
- Salzburg's city transport is built around electric trolleybuses. Trolleybuses run every 10, 15 or 20 minutes by day, most other bus lines every 15 minutes, and a special holiday timetable applies in July and August.
- Single tickets and 24-hour tickets for the core zone are cheaper bought in advance at kiosks or ticket machines, and every advance ticket must be validated in the vehicle on its first journey.
- For help in person, the ServiceCenter Verkehr sits in the basement of the local train station, with further counters at Alpenstrasse and at the transport association office on Schallmooser Hauptstrasse.
- The Salzburg Verkehr app plans journeys across Austria and sells single, day and myRegio weekly and monthly tickets on iOS and Android. Saving a card triggers a 1 euro test charge that is cancelled, not debited.
- From 14 September 2026, trolleybus lines 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10 keep running on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays from 11 pm to 1 am every 30 minutes, on their usual daytime routes.
- Late at night the Bustaxi runs: ordinary taxis with a route board behind the windscreen leave Makartplatz and Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz at set times and drop you at any bus stop on the route for a fixed 4.50 euros.
