- Free public transport in Tallinn is for registered residents only. International visitors pay a fare, apart from children under seven and one adult travelling with a child under three.
- Tapping a contactless bank card on any validator buys a one-hour ticket for €2, and once a day's taps reach the €5.50 day ticket price, further rides that day are free. The transport day starts at 4 a.m.
- For longer stays, the Ühiskaart travel card holds 1, 3, 5 or 30 day tickets. It is sold at the Tourist Information Centre and at the R-kiosk in the public area of the airport terminal next to Arrivals.
- QR tickets bought online or from ticket machines must be scanned every time you board, and the QR readers are often fitted only at the front of the vehicle. Nothing needs validating when you get off.
- Buses, trams and trolleybuses run from about 5:00 a.m. to midnight depending on the route. Night buses run only on Friday and Saturday nights, every 30 minutes between 00:30 and 03:30.
- Elron trains and the light blue county buses are outside the city ticket system and need a separate fare. The Northern Estonia joint ticket covers both, but it can only be loaded onto an Ühiskaart.
- Ferries cross to Helsinki in roughly two to three hours. Eckerö Line and Viking Line use Terminal A of the passenger port, Tallink uses Terminal D, and tram T2 connects the port with the centre from 5:30 a.m. until midnight.
- Taxi fares are not capped in Estonia. Each car shows its rates on a yellow sticker on the right rear window, the meter must be on, and you may refuse to pay if the meter or receipt printer is out of order.
- Forus and Bolt taxis wait at the official rank in front of the airport terminal. Taxis from other companies may only stop in the Kiss&Fly area of the parking house, and Uber also serves the airport by app.
- Besides cafés and hotels, free public Wi-Fi is offered in city government offices, public libraries and the Tourist Information Centre at Niguliste 2, and many newer trams also carry Wi-Fi.
- Estonian traffic law requires pedestrians to wear a reflector on the right side of their outer clothing at night or in poor visibility. Reflectors are sold in ordinary shops, kiosks and supermarkets.
- Shops in Tallinn may not sell alcohol between 22:00 and 10:00, and drinking alcohol in public places is prohibited.
