- San Pedro is on Ambergris Caye, the largest island in Belize; there is no road link, so arrival is by plane, helicopter or fast ferry.
- San Pedro's own airstrip has only domestic scheduled service - Tropic Air to Belize City International, Belize City Municipal, Caye Caulker and Corozal - so international arrivals connect through Belize City.
- A scheduled water taxi crosses an international border by boat, running between San Pedro and Chetumal in Mexico, described by the operator as about an hour and a half away.
- San Pedro was granted township status in 1984 and is the only town on Ambergris Caye, with a population of about 13,400.
- The San Pedro airstrip has a single 1,067 m asphalt runway at 4 feet above sea level, sized for the small turboprops that serve the island.
