- The Mara's airstrips are unpaved: Keekorok has a 1,280 m gravel runway and Mara Serena a 1,050 m all-weather gravel strip, both taking light aircraft only.
- Flights into the Mara mostly leave from Nairobi's Wilson Airport, not from Jomo Kenyatta International, so an international arrival means crossing Nairobi first.
- The reserve's easternmost border is 224 km from Nairobi, and the airstrips sit around 225 km southwest of the capital.
