- There is no bridge between Mombasa Island and the south coast the Kenya Ferry Service from Kilindini and Mtongwe to Likoni is the only crossing.
- The standard-gauge railway terminus is at Miritini, outside the city, reached by a highway built in 2018 as the first phase of the Dongo Kundu bypass.
