- Unified National Networks (UNN): From 1 September 2019 the networks of TelBru, DST, Progresif and the international gateway operator BIG were merged into Unified National Networks, a company wholly owned by the Brunei government, which now runs the country's single mobile radio network.
- DST, imagine and Progresif: Brunei's three retail providers, DST, imagine and Progresif, sell mobile plans on top of UNN's wholesale network. Changing provider changes the plan and the customer service, not the towers a phone connects to.
- UNN, network size: UNN runs more than 600 mobile base stations carrying 3G, 4G and 5G, which it says reach 94 percent of populated areas and connecting roads, alongside over 5,000 km of fibre.
- DST, VoLTE: DST offers VoLTE at no charge to its 4G and 5G postpaid customers and its 4G prepaid customers. A VoLTE call that leaves 4G coverage continues on the 3G network, possibly at lower quality, rather than dropping.
Les anciens réseaux en Brunei
- UNN phased out 2G GSM and completed the shutdown by 1 June 2021, reusing the spectrum for 3G and 4G and later 5G. A phone that only supports 2G cannot connect to any network in Brunei.
- Mobile service in Brunei began in 1989 with analogue AMPS; DST introduced GSM in 1995, 3G arrived in 2005 and 4G in 2014.
La 5G en Brunei
- 5G went live nationwide on 22 June 2023, announced jointly by the regulator AITI with UNN, DST, imagine and Progresif. At launch, 90 percent of populated areas had 5G ready mobile coverage, and a 5G capable phone is needed to use it.
- By the end of 2022, 92 percent of the country could receive service from 5G ready base stations, the result of a radio network modernisation UNN began in 2020 that added base stations in both populous and rural areas.
Le réseau en Brunei : à savoir
- The regulator's quality code requires 3G voice coverage over at least 80 percent of populated urban areas and 60 percent of populated areas classed as island locations, measured from a moving vehicle, and limits dropped calls to 2 percent per urban cell site and 3 percent in island locations.
- UNN co-owns three submarine cables, SEA-ME-WE 3, Asia-America Gateway and the South-East Asia Japan Cable, and reroutes traffic between them when one is damaged. Planned maintenance on a cable can last one to two weeks, and repairs longer.
- AITI's temporary limits on new mobile entrants ended on 1 January 2025, when the telecom market was fully liberalised. The regulator still expects few infrastructure licences because of the size of the market.
