Why one balance beats four plans

Because nobody in a family of four uses a quarter of the data each. One person navigates all day, one streams on the coach, two barely open a phone. Four separate plans means the navigator runs out on day three while three plans sit unused, and on a seller of expiring tickets those three are simply gone. Who counts against the eight

People, not devices. Up to eight people can draw on one balance. Your own tablet, laptop and watch are devices on your account and they do not count, so a family of four with a tablet each is four of the eight rather than eight of the eight.

Setting a cap, and why you probably should

A cap per person is optional and it is the difference between sharing a balance and lending your wallet. Set one for a teenager who streams, leave it off for a partner. The cap is checked against the billed figure that reconciles every 60 seconds, so it stops usage rather than reporting it afterwards.
