- Ferroviaria Andina's Expreso del Sur Ferrobús reaches Uyuni on a Monday night run from Oruro, leaving at 21:30 and pulling in at 04:23 after 6 hours 53 minutes.
- Heading south, the train waits 97 minutes in Uyuni, leaves at 06:00 on Tuesday for Atocha and Tupiza, and reaches Villazón on the Argentine border at 16:30.
- Northbound, the Ferrobús calls at Uyuni in the early hours of Friday, leaving at 01:00 after a 57 minute stop and arriving in Oruro at 07:55.
- Down the line, Atocha sits at 3,658 m and Tupiza at 2,850 m, so travelling south from Uyuni by train drops you roughly 850 m in altitude.
- Joya Andina airport is run by NAABOL, the state airport operator, which calls it key to tourism on the salt flat and provides free internet inside its airports.
- Ferroviaria Andina puts the Salar de Uyuni at more than 10,000 km² and its visitors at over 200,000 a year. In town, the Train Cemetery and the Railway Museum tell the story of Bolivia's railways.
- Isla Incahuasi and the salt hotels are the classic stops on the salt flat, according to NAABOL.
- Uyuni is part of the White Deserts and Coloured Lagoons route, together with the Eduardo Avaroa reserve in Sud Lípez province on the borders with Chile and Argentina. Laguna Colorada and Uturuncu volcano, 6,020 m, are among its landmarks.
- Most of the reserve's visitors come from abroad, and SERNAP charges them more to enter: it has quoted Bs 150 for foreign tourists against Bs 30 for Bolivians.
