What this category covers

Three questions, in the order you will meet them. Does your phone support eSIM, how do you buy the first plan, and when does the data run out. The third answer is that it does not, which surprises most people enough that it has its own article.

  • Finding an EID on iPhone, or an add eSIM menu on Android
  • Buying, paying, and installing your first line in one tap
  • What a wallet gigabyte is, and why there is no clock on it
  • What to expect in the first ten minutes after you land

What it does not cover

Installing, network faults and money each have a category of their own. Sending you to the wrong one costs you minutes at an airport, so the boundaries are drawn here rather than left to a search box.

  • The install itself, screen by screen, is in Installing your eSIM
  • No service after landing is in Troubleshooting
  • Refunds, invoices and price drops are in Billing and refunds
  • Covering a family's data is in Using and managing your data

The three things that go wrong before your first gigabyte

What goes wrongWhy it happensThe fix, in one line
The phone is carrier lockedYour home operator tied the handset to their network, so no eSIM profile will install on it, however new it isAsk your operator to unlock it before you fly. It takes about a day and is free once the contract is paid up.
The phone is below iOS 17.4One tap install with no QR code needs iOS 17.4. Older iPhones can still install, but with an extra step you will not want to do at a gateUpdate iOS at home on wifi, before you travel.
Data roaming is left switched offThe Orbislo line reaches partner networks by roaming, and both iOS and Android default that switch to offTurn on Data Roaming for the Orbislo line. It cannot cost you anything.

Roaming left off is a common cause of a phone that has no service after landing.

What to have ready before you ask us anything here

A first question answered on the first reply needs four things. Support can find the rest, but not these, and asking for them afterwards is what turns a two minute conversation into a two hour one.

  • Your exact phone model, from Settings, General, About, not the name on the box
  • The iOS or Android version number, because one tap install needs iOS 17.4
  • Whether the phone has ever been on a contract that could have locked it
  • The country you are flying to, and the date you land

The numbers behind this category

We sell in 197 destinations on one balance, with no separate purchase per country. Each destination's line installs in one tap, and most of Europe runs on a single line. Coverage comes from 264 upstream networks. A gigabyte starts at $4.89 and falls to $1.36 a gigabyte at the 50 GB tier, and none of it carries an expiry date. We have install notes for 67 phone models across 7 brands.

Where the next category starts

The moment you have paid, you are in Installing your eSIM. That category takes over at the Add Cellular Plan sheet on iPhone and at the eSIM download prompt on Android, and it carries the retry path for an install that fails. If you have paid and nothing installed, do not read on here. Go there.

Questions fréquentes

Do I need to buy before I fly, or can I buy on arrival?
Either works. Buying at home is easier because the install needs a connection, and airport wifi is the worst connection you will meet all trip. If you land with an empty balance, anyone who has bought from us in the last 12 months, or holds a subscription, gets at least 100 MB of free rescue data once a calendar month, loaded onto the line you are using, which is enough to buy a plan.
Does an eSIM replace my normal SIM?
No. Your home line stays where it is and keeps receiving calls and messages. Orbislo installs as a second line and you choose which one carries mobile data. On most phones that is a two tap change in Settings.
How much data should I buy for a week away?
Most people use 3 to 5 GB on a week long trip without watching video. Buy the smaller one. A wallet gigabyte does not expire, a top up takes about ten seconds, and buying short costs you nothing while buying long on a plan that expires costs you the difference.
Is there anything to install before I leave home?
The Orbislo app, and that is the whole list. The app holds one balance for every trip, and the first time you use it in a destination it issues that destination's line, which installs in one tap. Refills after that land on the line you already have, so a top up mid trip is a purchase and not another install.
What if my phone turns out not to support eSIM?
Then nothing you buy here will work, so make the check before you pay rather than at passport control. Look for the EID first: on iPhone it is in Settings, General, About, and on Android it sits under an add eSIM entry in the SIM or network menu. If there is no EID, a physical travel SIM from an airport counter is what you need, and we do not sell one.
