Conviene saber sobre Asuncion

• Asunción's airport is not in the city but in neighbouring Luque, 10 km from downtown, and a single city bus line, 30-A, links the two.
• The airport shares some facilities with the Ñu-Guazú Air Force Base.
• It is run by DINAC, Paraguay's civil aviation authority, and is the hub for LATAM Paraguay and Paranair.
• Paraguay's free public wifi is called GobiernoPy WiFi Gratis. You pick the signal or scan a QR code at the marked point, then sign in with a Facebook account, a Google account, or the state electronic identity.
• No local phone number is asked for. The login choices published by MITIC are a Facebook account, a Google account or the electronic identity, which a traveller can use on arrival.
• The first phase of the programme lit 110 wifi points in Asuncion and Gran Asuncion in 2019. A second phase in 2023 added points in every municipality, taking the national total past 400.
• The access points sit in plazas, parks, libraries, cultural centres and other public spaces. MITIC publishes a map of the nearest point at mitic.gov.py/wifi-libre.
• Since 17 February 2021 the only way to pay a bus fare in Asuncion and the metropolitan area is a card of the Sistema Nacional de Billetaje Electronico. Drivers no longer take cash.
• Two card brands run the system, Jaha issued by Epas S.A. and Mas issued by TDP S.A. Both work on the same buses.
• A card costs G. 10,000 and comes with a minimum load worth one differential fare, G. 3,400. Cards are sold and topped up at Aqui Pago and Pago Express counters, lottery stands, supermarkets and pharmacies.
• The MOPC transport ministry says you validate the card as you board, one validation per person per journey. The scheme has three card types, general, student and disabled.
• Paraguay's telecoms regulator CONATEL governs mobile SIM sign up through its resolution RD 0656/2008 on registration and identification of mobile telephone users, the third version of that rule.
• Paraguay stopped changing its clocks. Law 7354 fixed official time at UTC minus 3 all year from the first Sunday of October 2024, matching Argentina, Chile and Uruguay.
• DINAC says the new boarding area adds 2,245 square metres with two new telescopic jet bridges, new lighting, air conditioning and renovated toilets, fully open to passengers from late November 2025.
• Puerto Jose Falcon, facing Clorinda in Argentina, is Paraguay's second busiest crossing with Argentina. A reciprocal recognition system will let both exit and entry checks happen in one stop.
• Asuncion lies on the eastern bank of the Paraguay river just north northeast of its confluence with the Pilcomayo. The river separates the city from the Occidental Region, the Chaco.
• Asuncion was once the country's main river port, a role now held by Villeta downstream. River commerce still runs past the city on the Paraguay river.
• The Paraguay river waterway moves an average of 15 million tonnes a year, and the government is clearing 13 rocky passages to raise that toward 40 million tonnes.
