Conviene saber sobre Kosice
- Kosice airport is 6 km south of St Elisabeth Cathedral in the old town, and a single city bus (line 23) covers the trip in about 20 minutes.
- Kosice is Slovakia's second airport after Bratislava, handling both domestic and international scheduled and charter flights, so route choice is limited and many travellers arrive via a connection.
- Kosice public transport tickets cannot be bought from the driver. DPMK directs travellers to ticket machines, shops, its Rooseveltova Street office or the SMS ticket system.
- The DPMK SMS ticket, an empty text sent to 1166, costs 1.50 euros, but the page states it works only from a Slovak mobile operator's number, so a foreign SIM cannot buy one.
- Kosice's paper fares run 1.20 euros for 30 minutes, 1.40 for 60 minutes, 4.00 for 24 hours and 8.00 for three days, each about 10 cents cheaper on the app or city card.
- There is a DPMK ticket machine at Kosice airport and machines at the railway station, on Osloboditelov Square and at the Aupark and DoubleTree Hilton.
- Paying by bank card directly on a Kosice tram or bus is not yet possible. DPMK contracted 1,331 readers in June 2026, 681 of them for EMV cards, for rollout from 2027.
- Kosice's own transport card is not anonymous. It requires a visit to a DPMK office with identification and a photo taken on site, costs 8 euros and is valid five years.
- Kosice's tramway began as a horse tramway on 14 November 1891, running from the railway station along Main Street, and was electrified in 1913.
- A 1,520 mm broad gauge railway runs 88 km from the Ukrainian border to Haniska pri Kosiciach beside the steelworks, opened 1966 and electrified 1978, moving ore without a gauge change.
- Kosice was European Capital of Culture in 2013, sharing the title with Marseille-Provence, on a programme built around themes including open public space and a living culture lab.
