Conviene saber sobre Cappadocia
- Cappadocia is a historical region, not a city: it spans the Nevşehir, Aksaray, Kayseri, Niğde and Kırşehir provinces of central Anatolia, and Göreme is a district of Nevşehir Province.
- Göreme Open-Air Museum, on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 6 December 1985, is 13 km from Nevşehir. It is reached by Göreme town vehicles from central Nevşehir or on agency tours of the region.
- The Ministry of Culture lists the Göreme site as open every day from 08:00, with the ticket office closing at 18:45. Evening openings run from 19:00 to 23:00, last tickets at 22:30, and an audio guide is available.
- The Göreme site, opened to visitors in 1967, holds rock-cut churches including Tokalı, Elmalı, Saint Barbara, the Serpent Church and the Dark Church, painted with scenes from the Bible and the life of Jesus.
- The MüzeKart museum pass is valid only for Turkish citizens at Göreme and Derinkuyu, so foreign visitors buy a ticket per site. The ministry's muze.gov.tr store sells an e-ticket for the Göreme site in advance.
- Derinkuyu Underground City reaches about 85 metres below ground, and only around a tenth of it can be visited. It opened to the public in 1965, and its 55 metre ventilation shaft also served as a well.
- Derinkuyu opens daily from 08:00 with last tickets at 18:45, and also runs evening visits from 19:00 to 21:00, when the ticket office shuts at 20:15.
- Somewhere between 150 and 200 underground settlements are thought to lie across Cappadocia, carved into soft tuff as refuges from attack. They stay cool in summer and warm in winter.
- The ministry keeps Göreme, Zelve Paşabağlar, the Dark Church and the Kaymaklı, Derinkuyu and Özkonak underground cities open to foreign visitors at weekends too.
- Balloon flights over Cappadocia run in slots set by the civil aviation authority. The morning period starts 30 minutes before sunrise and ends at 11:00 local time, and the afternoon period runs from 14:00 until sunset.
- Each balloon take-off in the Nevşehir Cappadocia flight area needs clearance from a Slot Service Centre that weighs the requests against weather assessments, which is why flights can be called off on the morning itself.
