What this category covers
Three questions, in the order you will meet them. Does your phone support eSIM, how do you buy the first plan, and when does the data run out. The third answer is that it does not, which surprises most people enough that it has its own article.
- Finding an EID on iPhone, or an add eSIM menu on Android
- Buying, paying, and installing the Orbislo Passport once
- What a wallet gigabyte is, and why there is no clock on it
- What to expect in the first ten minutes after you land
What it does not cover
Installing, network faults and money each have a category of their own. Sending you to the wrong one costs you minutes at an airport, so the boundaries are drawn here rather than left to a search box.
- The install itself, screen by screen, is in Installing your eSIM
- No service after landing is in Troubleshooting
- Refunds, invoices and price drops are in Billing and refunds
- Pooling data across a family is in Using and managing your data
The three things that go wrong before your first gigabyte
| What goes wrong | Why it happens | The fix, in one line |
|---|---|---|
| The phone is carrier locked | Your home operator tied the handset to their network, so no eSIM profile will install on it, however new it is | Ask your operator to unlock it before you fly. It takes about a day and is free once the contract is paid up. |
| The phone is below iOS 17.4 | One tap install with no QR code needs iOS 17.4. Older iPhones can still install, but with an extra step you will not want to do at a gate | Update iOS at home on wifi, before you travel. |
| Data roaming is left switched off | The Orbislo line reaches partner networks by roaming, and both iOS and Android default that switch to off | Turn on Data Roaming for the Orbislo line. It cannot cost you anything. |
Ordered by how often our support queue sees them. Roaming left off is the most common single cause of a phone that has no service after landing, at about sixty percent of those tickets.
Which article answers which question
| What you are actually asking | Read this |
|---|---|
| Will this phone even take an eSIM | How do I check if my phone supports eSIM |
| I am ready to buy and I do not know which size | How do I buy my first plan |
| I bought too much and I am worried it burns | When does my data expire |
| I have paid and nothing has installed | Installing your eSIM, the next category |
What to have ready before you ask us anything here
A first question answered on the first reply needs four things. Support can find the rest, but not these, and asking for them afterwards is what turns a two minute conversation into a two hour one.
- Your exact phone model, from Settings, General, About, not the name on the box
- The iOS or Android version number, because one tap install needs iOS 17.4
- Whether the phone has ever been on a contract that could have locked it
- The country you are flying to, and the date you land
The numbers behind this category
We sell in 145 destinations, which is fewer than Airalo's 169 and more than Holafly's 113. Coverage is checked against 157 upstream networks and 75,333 speed samples from real travellers. A gigabyte starts at $4.89 and falls to $1.36 a gigabyte at the 50 GB tier. We have install notes for 67 phone models across 7 brands.
Where the next category starts
The moment you have paid, you are in Installing your eSIM. That category takes over at the Add Cellular Plan sheet on iPhone and at the eSIM download prompt on Android, and it carries the retry path for an install that fails. If you have paid and nothing installed, do not read on here. Go there.
