Bon à savoir sur Berlin

• Le 6 mai 2024, O2 Telefonica, Telekom et Vodafone ont achevé un projet de cinq ans qui a déployé la 4G sur les neuf lignes du U-Bahn et 175 stations, en posant plus de 1,000 km de fibre.
• Le même projet a installé 360 antennes de tunnel, 350 répéteurs et 30 stations de base, en travaillant par fenêtres de trois heures la nuit. La 5G démarre à Alexanderplatz sur 3.6 GHz.
• La gare de BER se trouve dans un tunnel de 3.1 km sous le Terminal 1, compte trois quais centraux et six voies, et est ouverte 24 heures par jour.
• BER a ouvert au trafic commercial le 31 octobre 2020, neuf ans après son ouverture prévue en octobre 2011 et 29 ans après le début de la planification.
• Tegel a fermé en 2020 et Tempelhof en 2008, donc une ville qui a eu trois aéroports n'en a plus qu'un, avec le Terminal 2 ajouté le 24 mars 2022.

• Berlin fares use three zones: A inside the S-Bahn ring, B out to the city limits, and C covering about 15 km beyond, including Potsdam and BER. BVG says a trip from the airport to the centre needs an ABC ticket.
• One ticket covers the S-Bahn, U-Bahn, trams, buses and even ferries within its zones. Paper tickets must be stamped at the yellow or red validators before travel, and app tickets must be activated before the journey begins.
• The U-Bahn runs all night at weekends. On weeknights night buses marked with an N replace the trains once the U-Bahn closes.
• BVG's Jelbi app puts public transport tickets and sharing services such as bikes, scooters, mopeds and cars under one BVG account. Sharing rides need a one off check of documents such as a driving licence.
• Hotels add Berlin's overnight tax to the bill. From 1 January 2025 the rate rose to 7.5 percent and the old exemption for stays over 21 days ended, and business stays have been taxed since 1 April 2024.
